Greg Dobbs (calf) is on track to return to the Marlins' lineup on Saturday. Dobbs has been sidelined over the past few days due to a sore calf, but it's not a major concern. Logan Morrison and Placido Polanco both carry health questions, so the 34-year-old should be an active bench player for the Marlins again this season.

Greg Dobbs swatted a solo home run on Friday, helping to lead the Marlins to a 4-0 victory over the Reds. He finished the night 2-for-4. His solo shot off Bronson Arroyo in the fourth inning increased the Marlins' lead to 3-0. He's been drawing fairly regular starts in recent weeks, and is hitting a very respectable .307/.326/.411 with five homers and 37 RBI through 280 at-bats.

Greg Dobbs has been playing through a strained oblique. Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald writes that Dobbs has been in "considerable pain," particularly when he throws. But, the utility man doesn't plan on going on the disabled list. "Until I physically can't play or physically feel I can't help this team, I'll cross that bridge,'' Dobbs said. "But I haven't got to that point yet, nor do I envision that happening."

Greg Dobbs went 3-for-4 and homered Wednesday against the Phillies. He also committed his third error in three days at third base, which is a big reason why the Marlins prefer to use him as a pinch-hitter. Dobbs is batting .300 with 29 RBI in 213 at-bats for the season, but he's simply playing too much right now.

Greg Dobbs went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's rout of the Blue Jays. The home run was Dobbs' first of the season, though he's now hitting .294/.330/.373 as a part-time player. His position eligibility makes him worth a bench spot in deeper NL-only leagues.

Greg Dobbs (hamstring) will play five innings in the field in a minor league game Thursday and is expected to ready for Opening Day. Dobbs says he "absolutely" expects to be ready for Opening Day. He will serve as a utility infielder and pinch hitter for the Marlins this year.

Greg Dobbs (hamstring) is expected to be ready to play on Opening Day. It's not clear when Dobbs will return to game action, but he's started a running program and his hamstring has responded favorably. "We'll ramp it up a little bit more," he said.

Greg Dobbs was scratched from Monday's Grapefruit League game due to soreness in his left hamstring. It's not a major injury, but the Marlins can afford to be cautious with everybody here in early March. "I'd rather him to miss a couple of more days," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "A couple of days is not going to kill him."

Marlins re-signed INF-OF Greg Dobbs to a two-year, $3 million contract. Dobbs had to settle for a minor league deal last winter, but he gets a two-year contract this offseason after batting .275/.311/.389 with eight homers, 49 RBI and a .701 OPS over 439 plate appearances in 2011. We wouldn't count on a repeat, so if the 33-year-old gets significant playing time again in 2012, then something probably went very wrong. He should do just fine as a bench bat and utility man, though.

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that Greg Dobbs will make $3 million in his new two-year contract with the Marlins. Not bad after he had to settle for a minor league deal last winter. Dobbs, 33, received semi-regular playing time at third base for the Marlins last season, batting .275/.311/.389 with eight homers, 49 RBI and a .701 OPS over 439 plate appearances. He also batted .370 (10-for-27) with a home run and eight RBI as a pinch-hitter. With Hanley Ramirez expected to make the move to third base in 2012, he'll contribute off the bench moving forward.
