Parra agreed to a one-year, $2 million contract Wednesday with the Yomiuri Giants of Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.

Though Parra didn't have a substantial role for the Nationals during the postseason in the club's run to its first World Series, he proved to be a useful reserve and fill-in starter in the outfield and first base in the regular season. Still, the 32-year-old put together a meager .234/.293/.391 slash line (74 wRC+) across 301 plate appearances, production that likely would have forced him to settle for a lesser salary had he elected to continue his career stateside. Instead, he'll head overseas on a deal worth up to $2.5 million in bonuses in 2020. The contract also contains a $3 million vesting option for 2021.

Parra went 2-for-2 with three RBI in Sunday's 8-2 win over the Indians.

Parra was the Nationals' top batter during the three-game series to close out the regular season, racking up seven hits -- including four for extra bases -- over the weekend. He'll likely fill a bench role Tuesday for the Nationals' wild-card matchup with the Brewers, but his hot run at the dish could make him manager Dave Martinez's top pinch-hitting option.

Parra went 3-for-3 with a double, home run and four RBI in an 8-2 victory against the Nationals on Friday.

EDGE Analysis

He's not playing everyday, but after picking up his first hit in weeks Thursday night, Parra exploded for his first three-hit performance since June 1. The home run was also his first since Aug. 7. Parra is batting .224 with eight home runs, 41 RBI, 36 runs and eight stolen bases in 268 at-bats this season.

Parra is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.

EDGE Analysis

While Adam Eaton tended to a sore right knee, Parra made all three starts in right field for the Nationals during the team's weekend series with Miami, going 1-for-13 with a run scored in those contests. Eaton received the green light to rejoin the lineup for Monday's series opener and is expected to play on an everyday basis moving forward, likely closing the door on Parra's path to steady at-bats.

Parra is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds.

EDGE Analysis

Parra drew starts in each of the past three games, seeing action at all three outfield spots. In spite of the recent surge in playing time, Parra seems unlikely to keep receiving regular starts while all of Adam Eaton, Victor Robles and Juan Soto are reasonably healthy.

Parra went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Giants.

Facing the team that waived him in early May, the 32-year-old gave Joe Ross and the Nats bullpen all the offense they would need with his third-inning blast off Shaun Anderson. Between the two clubs, Parra is slashing .249/.308/.415 with seven homers and 36 RBI in 87 games.

Parra will start in center field and bat seventh Sunday against the Diamondbacks, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.

After manning first base in Saturday's 18-7 loss, Parra will stick in the lineup for a second straight contest, this time moving into the outfield for a resting Victor Robles. Though the Nationals moved Howie Kendrick (hamstring) to the 10-day injured list Sunday, the transaction isn't expected to open up any additional playing time for Parra, aside from perhaps the occasional spot start.

Parra will start in right field and bat second Thursday against the Marlins.

EDGE Analysis

Parra will spell Adam Eaton in the outfield for the Independence Day game in what marks the former's first start since June 23. The veteran has been holding down the Nationals' fourth-outfielder role since Michael Taylor was demoted to the minors last week, but the 32-year-old shouldn't be counted on to see much more than the occasional spot start or pinch-hitting appearance.

Parra went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBI in a 6-2 win over the Phillies during the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Getting the start in center field and hitting seventh, Parra launched a solo shot off Cole Irvin in the eighth inning to help put the game out of reach. It was the 32-year-old's only start in the last five games, including Wednesday's nightcap, and he's now slashing .239/.282/.478 with four homers and 14 RBI in 27 games since joining the Nats.

Parra replaced Matt Adams (oblique) in the sixth inning of Monday's win over the White Sox, going 0-for-2 and leaving three men on base.

EDGE Analysis

The 32-year-old has cooled down significantly since his big Nats debut, and Parra is now 0-for-14 over his last seven games. If Adams' injury forces him to the IL, look for Howie Kendrick to handle most of the action at first base, at least until Parra finds his way out of this slump.
