Richards allowed five runs on 11 hits over 5.2 innings in Monday's win over the Royals. He struck out three and did not factor in the decision.
EDGE Analysis
All five runs against Richards came in the first two innings and they all came on homers, including a three-run shot by Carlos Santana in the first. Over his last four starts, the 33-year-old righty has been slammed with 20 runs (17 earned) over 16.2 innings, bringing his ERA to 4.96. Richards is projected to face the Athletics in Oakland this weekend.

Richards (4-5) allowed five runs (four earned) on three hits, four walks and a hit batsman over 1.2 innings, taking the loss to Tampa Bay on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Richards had little control in his first start since MLB announced it would be cracking down on the use of foreign substances by pitchers. That seemed to be a factor for the right-hander, who voiced his concerns to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com after the announcement last week. Following Wednesday's loss, he told Cotillo the crackdown "has changed pretty much everything for me. I feel like I need to be a different pitcher than I have been the last nine-and-a-half years." Richards is undergoing a transition in light of the crackdown and must do so on the fly. It's unclear if the adjustment will cost Richards his starting job, but he's next scheduled to pitch Monday at home against Kansas City.

Richards tossed four innings against Atlanta on Wednesday, giving up six runs (four earned) on seven hits and one walk while striking out three. He did not factor in the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Richards surrendered four earned runs for the second straight outing, but he was rescued from a loss in both instances by Boston's offense. Wednesday's start was his poorest since a six-run, two-inning effort in his first appearance of the campaign, as it marked the second time this season he has failed to pitch at least 4.2 frames. Richards has been mostly consistent this season, pitching five or more innings and giving up three or fewer earned runs in nine of his 14 starts. He'll try to rebound from this mediocre performance in his next start, which is expected to come on the road against Tampa Bay next week.

Richards allowed four runs on 11 hits and two walks while striking out three over 5.1 innings in a no-decision Friday against Toronto.
EDGE Analysis
The Blue Jays hit 12 balls at greater than 100 mph exit velocity off Richards, who allowed a season-high 13 baserunners in the contest. The right-hander has not won a game since May 19, a four-start span in which he's given up 29 hits and 12 walks over 22 innings. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday on the road in Atlanta.

Richards didn't factor into the decision during Sunday's 6-5 win over the Yankees, pitching five innings and allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks with six strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
Richards settled down after an eventful first inning that saw him surrender four hits and two runs to only allow one more run over the next four innings. He departed down 3-1 but Boston mounted a comeback and the game eventually went to extra innings. Richards has now allowed three earned runs or less in five consecutive starts and owns a 3.88 ERA.

Richards (4-4) was tagged with the loss against Houston on Tuesday despite allowing only two runs on four hits and four walks over six innings. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
Richards notched his fourth quality start of the campaign in the contest, but Boston's quiet offense saddled the veteran right-hander with the loss. He did issue four walks for the third straight game, but none of those issued free passes came around to score. It's rarely helpful to walk batters, but Richards has managed a reasonable 3.44 ERA over the three-game stretch despite an unattractive 14:12 K:BB. His next start is currently slated to come against the rival Yankees this weekend.

Richards (4-3) was beaten by Atlanta on Tuesday, giving up three runs on six hits and four walks while striking out four over 5.2 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Richards didn't have his best stuff -- 59 strikes among 97 pitches -- but he battled to keep the Red Sox in the game. The issue wasn't Richards; it was Boston's offense. The team had Charlie Morton on the ropes early but failed to take advantage. After Xander Bogaerts' two-out single in the third, the veteran right-hander mowed down the last 13 batters faced and 17-of-18 overall, sticking Boston and Richards with the loss. Richards' next spin through the rotation comes due Monday on the road against Houston.

Richards (4-2) allowed two runs on seven hits and four walks with five strikeouts in 6.2 innings to earn the win Wednesday versus Toronto.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander gave up an RBI double to Vladimir Guerrero in the first inning and was charged with one of the runs on a two-run blast by Marcus Semien in the seventh. Richards has collected wins in four of his last five starts, and he's given up just eight runs in his last 31.2 innings. For the year, he's posted a 3.72 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 43:22 K:BB in 48.1 innings. He's still giving up too many baserunners to be considered dominant. The 32-year-old's next start is expected to come next week versus Atlanta.

Richards (3-2) was the winner Thursday, allowing five hits and three walks while striking out four over six scoreless innings in an 8-1 victory over the Athletics.
EDGE Analysis
Boston's bats finally came out to play in the series, staking Richards to a 7-0 lead after three innings. He won his third straight decision and has been quietly dominant over his last four outings. The right-hander sports a 2.16 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with a 26:5 K:BB over that stretch (25 innings). He's in line to start next Wednesday on the road in Dunedin against the Blue Jays.

Richards (2-2) picked up the win Saturday, giving up four runs on eight hits and a walk over seven innings in an 11-6 victory over the Orioles. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander wasn't at his sharpest, but he got more than enough run support while tossing 64 of 98 pitches for strikes. Richards has lasted seven innings in two of his last three starts, and he'll carry a 4.54 ERA and 34:15 K:BB through 35.2 innings into his next outing.
