Butera went 4-for-5 with two runs scored Sunday against the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
All four of Butera's hits were singles, but this performance was nonetheless able to raise his average from .245 to .270. The drop-off in power from regular catcher Salvador Perez (oblique) to Butera has been very noticeable, as the former had produced 42 extra-base hits in 391 plate appearances while the latter has just six in 125 plate appearances. Unfortunately for Kansas City, Perez looks to be at least a few more days from returning.

Butera is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Cardinals, Rustin Dodd of The Kansas City Star reports.
EDGE Analysis
As expected, Butera has taken over as the Royals' primary catcher following Salvador Perez's (oblique) placement on the disabled list, picking up starts in three of the previous four contests. With Perez facing an uncertain timetable for a return, it looks like Butera will enjoy some stability in the regular role, though he'll still be rested a couple times per week like most other top backstops around the league. Cam Gallagher will catch for Royals starter Trevor Cahill on Wednesday.

Butera will start at catcher and bat ninth in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday against the Mariners, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Butera will presumably sit out the nightcap while the newly recalled Cam Gallagher makes his major-league debut, but Butera should be in store for regular duty behind the plate following the placement of Salvador Perez (oblique) on the disabled list earlier Sunday. That might be enough to put Butera on the radar in AL-only formats, but the backstop won't warrant investment in most other formats in light of his underwhelming career line (.203/.257/.302 over 1,086 plate appearances).

Butera is starting behind the plate and hitting ninth Friday against the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
The reserve catcher has started just two of the team's last 14 games, but he'll give Salvador Perez a break from backstop duties Friday (Perez will DH). Butera is hitting just .227 through 75 at-bats this season.

Butera is slashing .242/.254/.387 with two home runs in 62 at-bats this season.
EDGE Analysis
The 33-year-old has hit well enough for a backup catcher this season, but expect his current usage to continue with starting catcher Salvador Perez healthy. Butera is coming off a .285/.328/.480 slash line in 123 at-bats with the Royals last season, but that was his first MLB season in which he carried an average over .200, and is unlikely to see that type of production again.

Butera is hitting .256 this season in a backup role.
EDGE Analysis
The Royals aren't asking Butera to do much this year, as starter Salvador Perez continues to receive most of the playing time behind the plate. When he does get a chance, he has struggled to consistently put the ball in play, striking out eight times in 41 at-bats. He's only a career .201 hitter, so the struggles at the plate are nothing new for the 33-year-old backstop. With Perez's reputation as one of the most durable catchers in baseball, Butera's low ceiling doesn't appear to be changing anytime soon.

Butera went 2-for-4 with home run and two RBI during Monday's win over Tampa Bay.
EDGE Analysis
The two RBI were also the first of the season for Butera, and he's sporting an underwhelming .208/.208/.375 slash line. The backup backstop has started just seven games this season and projects to remain a low priority in all fantasy settings.

Butera is starting at catcher and hitting ninth Sunday against the Rangers, Rustin Dodd of the Kansas City Star reports.
EDGE Analysis
Salvador Perez was scratched from Saturday's lineup due to neck stiffness, so Butera was a late addition. Until Perez is ready to return, look for Butera to see an increase in playing time. Butera has played in five games this season, during which he's gone 1-for-10.

Butera, making just his second start of the season, went 0-for-3 with a strikeout and left one man on base Sunday against the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
The seldomly-used catcher is the only hitter on the Royals active roster that hasn't reached base yet this season. Butera is 0-for-7 with two strikeouts while appearing in just three contests (once as a pinch hitter) so far this year. With one of the game's best backstops, Salvador Perez, ahead of him on the depth chart, Butera's only fantasy value comes in the form of an extreme punt play on the days he starts.

Butera will leave spring camp to join Team Italy for the World Baseball Classic, Josh Vernier of 610 Sports Radio reports.
EDGE Analysis
Butera's status for the WBC was up in the air after he was diagnosed with a minor oblique strain last week, but appears good to go after playing in Tuesday's Cactus League game. The decision was to be expected if the 33-year-old felt healthy, as his father serves as a coach on the team. Italy opens pool play Thursday in Mexico.
