Dietrich (shoulder) is not starting Friday against the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
Dietrich hasn't played since leaving Tuesday's game against the Brewers with a left shoulder injury, an issue he's dealt with on and off all season. He likely would have sat even if healthy Friday, though, with lefty Steven Brault on the mound for Pittsburgh.

Dietrich left Tuesday's game against the Brewers after aggravating his left shoulder injury, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. "He's been dealing with a shoulder [injury] off and on all year," manager David Bell said. "It's just kind of some wear and tear in the shoulder. We're going to try to figure out what the best plan is for the rest of the year. He was taken out for that."
EDGE Analysis
This is the same injury that put Dietrich on the IL in August. It might keep him out of this weekend's final series of the season against the Pirates.

Dietrich is out of the lineup for the first game of Sunday's doubleheader with the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
Dietrich drew four consecutive starts at first base between Aug. 23 and 26, but his time in the everyday lineup is over following Joey Votto's recent return from the injured list. During the final month of the season, the slumping Dietrich probably won't be in line for much more than the occasional start in addition to pinch-hitting work versus right-handers.

Dietrich will start at first base and bat sixth Sunday against the Pirates, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Dietrich has now manned first base in each of his first three games back from a nearly three-week stay on the injured list. Though Dietrich has gone hitless in his first two contests back in action and is slashing just .125/.311/.250 since the beginning of July, he should be in line for steady action against right-handed pitching until the Reds return Joey Votto (back) from the injury list.

Dietrich (shoulder) was activated from the 10-day injured list Friday. He is starting at first base and batting seventh against the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
He takes the roster spot of Jesse Winker (neck), who was placed on the 10-day injured list. Dietrich has been out since Aug. 4. He had a great start to the season, but is hitting just .141/.331/.273 with two home runs in 99 at-bats since June 1. He should assume a part-time role going forward.

Dietrich (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment Monday with Triple-A Louisville, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
He has been out since Aug. 4 and may not require more than a few rehab games before he is ready to rejoin the big-league club. Josh VanMeter and Aristides Aquino have both emerged as quality options while Dietrich has been out, so it is unclear whether a regular role will be waiting for him once he is activated.

Dietrich (shoulder) took batting practice on the field prior to Saturday's game, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
This is a significant development for Dietrich, who has been on the injured list since Aug. 5 with left shoulder inflammation. If he responds well overnight, the Reds may start working out the logistics for a minor-league rehab assignment. Dietrich is expected to return to a bench role once healthy.

Dietrich was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday with left shoulder inflammation.
EDGE Analysis
It's unclear when the injury cropped up, but it will force Dietrich to miss at least 10 days. Brian O'Grady was promoted from Triple-A Louisville to take Dietrich's place on the roster.

Dietrich will start at second base and bat sixth Sunday against the Braves.
EDGE Analysis
He'll crack the lineup for the first time since July 17, ending a stretch of 16 consecutive games on the bench. Dietrich was plagued by a knee injury early during that streak of absences, but his lack of usage in more recent days has been due in part to the emergence of Josh VanMeter. Though the Reds recently opened up two spots in the everyday lineup by trading away Yasiel Puig and Scooter Gennett, VanMeter, Aristides Aquino, Jose Peraza and Phillip Ervin all look like better bets than Dietrich to notice enhanced roles.

Dietrich (knee) had three plate appearances coming off the bench in the Reds' three-game series against the Pirates, striking out all three times. He sat out Wednesday's win entirely.
EDGE Analysis
With the Reds trading away Scooter Gennett and Yasiel Puig over the last two days, there's now some room for Dietrich to play over the last two months, presuming that his knee is fully healed. The Reds will also want to see more from Josh VanMeter, Philip Ervin and Jose Peraza down the stretch, so don't assume that Dietrich will be an everyday starter.
