The Padres recalled Spangenberg from Triple-A El Paso ahead of Sunday's doubleheader with the Phillies.
EDGE Analysis
Though he's primarily played second or third base during his MLB career, Spangenberg is capable of manning left field, giving the Padres some temporary coverage there while Manuel Margot is day-to-day with a wrist injury. That being said, Spangenberg won't be in line for steady at-bats, as Hunter Renfroe looks like the first option to fill in as a starter in the outfield until Margot is deemed ready to go. Spangenberg will instead act as a lightly used utility man, with most of his plate appearances coming against right-handed pitching.

Spangenberg was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Monday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Spangenberg will head to the minors after struggling at the dish through 65 games in 2018. He's batting just .232 with six home runs and 17 RBI. In corresponding moves, Walker Lockett and Phil Maton were recalled from Triple-A.

Spangenberg started at third base and went 1-for-7 with four strikeouts in Sunday's 16-inning win over Arizona.
EDGE Analysis
Spangenberg returned to the lineup after retreating to the bench against a southpaw Saturday. This has generally been the case over the past couple of weeks, placing the 27-year-old on the strong side of a platoon at the hot corner with Christian Villanueva. Spangenberg is slashing a mediocre .232/.264/.378 through 195 plate appearances, but his light power (six homers) and speed (five steals) could intrigue NL-only fantasy owners as long as he continues to play against right-handed starters.

Spangenberg is not in the lineup against San Francisco on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Spangenberg will head back to the bench with left-hander Andrew Suarez on the mound for the Giants. In his place, Christian Villanueva will man the hot corner.

EDGE Analysis
As per usual, Spangenberg will hit the bench with a lefty in Madison Bumgarner starting for the Giants. Christian Villanueva will start at third base and hit cleanup in his stead Thursday.

Spangenberg is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Braves.
EDGE Analysis
Spangenberg started the previous four games and is 12-for-36 over his last 10 games with three home runs and two triples. Christian Villanueva will get the start at third base with Jose Pirela at second base Friday.

Spangenberg started at second base and went 1-for-3 with a walk and his sixth home run of the season in Monday's loss to the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
Spangenberg had been eating into Christian Villanueva's playing time at the hot corner over the past week, but both players were able to start Monday's game with Jose Pirela getting the day off. Spangenberg certainly seems like the hotter option of the two third-base options right now, as he is batting .333 (8-for-24) with two triples, three homers, six RBI and a stolen base over his last seven contests. The Padres have four more right-handed starts on the docket, so expect the left-handed bat to get a healthy look somewhere in the lineup based on his recent offensive surge.

Spangenberg is not in the lineup Sunday against the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
Spangenberg went 2-for-5 with a double and RBI in Saturday's contest but will make his way to the bench prior to Sunday's series finale. Christian Villanueva will bat fifth and handle third base duties in his absence.

Spangenberg started at third base and went 2-for-4 with a triple, a home run, two RBI and a pair of runs scored in Monday's win over Atlanta.
EDGE Analysis
Spangenberg got the start at the hot corner in place of the injured Christian Villanueva (ankle), and he responded with his second homer in as many days. The latter is only dealing with a bruise, so he shouldn't remain out for very long. Once Villanueva returns, Spangenberg will settle back into his backup utility role, so fantasy owners shouldn't overreact to this brief outburst of power.

Spangenberg started and went 0-for-3 in Tuesday's loss to Washington.
EDGE Analysis
Spangenberg got the nod at the hot corner in place of Christian Villanueva. The 27-year-old has struggled since returning to the majors May 12 (3-for-19), but he does have a homer and two steals over that span. Spangenberg will serve as a utility man following the demotion of backup infielder Carlos Asuaje on Tuesday.
