Hamels gave up two runs on six hits and three walks over 5.1 innings but didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 6-5 win over the Mariners. He struck out seven in the outing.
EDGE Analysis
After posting a 23:3 K:BB in his first four turns, Hamels has battled some control issues his last two times out, issuing nine walks. On a positive note, Hamels has at least done a decent job of keeping the ball in the yard a year after serving up a career-high 29 homers. In a season in which home runs are piling up at a record-setting pace, Hamels' 0.98 HR/9 rate is actually much better than the league average (1.32 entering play Wednesday).

Hamels gave up three runs on three hits with six walks while striking out seven through 5.1 innings in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
There were some positives as Hamels struck out seven with 14 swinging-strikes, but he also allowed six free passes in only 5.1 innings. The 35-year-old had only walked three hitters coming into this contest, so this looks more like the outlier than a cause for concern. The right-hander has a 3-0 record with a 2.59 ERA through five starts. Hamels will get his next start Tuesday in Seattle.

Hamels (3-0) allowed three hits while walking none and striking out eight across seven scoreless innings to earn the win Wednesday against the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
Hamels took advantage of a weak Marlins lineup and faced the minimum number of batters through six innings. He did allow two hits in the seventh and escaped a bases-loaded jam to secure his scoreless effort. After stumbling in his first start of the season, Hamels has allowed only three earned runs while striking out 19 across 21 innings of work.

Hamels (2-0) allowed one run on four hits with six strikeouts and no walks across eight innings in a victory against the Angels on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
His first start was a rough one against his former team (the Rangers), but in his last two outings, Hamels has been on point, yielding just three runs in 14 innings. He also has 11 strikeouts and no walks during that stretch. Overall, Hamels is 2-0 with a 3.79 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 15 strikeouts in 19 frames. His next start should be against the Marlins.

Hamels (1-0) picked up the win Saturday, allowing two runs on six hits over six innings while striking out five in a 14-8 victory over the Brewers.
EDGE Analysis
In a series that has already featured 45 runs and 15 homers through two games, Hamels' quality start looks downright heroic -- although the veteran southpaw didn't escape completely unscathed, getting taken deep by Lorenzo Cain to lead off the bottom of the first inning. Hamels threw 73 of 111 pitches for strikes, and he'll look to keep rolling in his next outing Friday, at home against the Angels.

Hamels surrendered five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four over five innings Sunday against Texas. He didn't factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Hamels was in the driver's seat heading into the fourth inning, but he gave up the lead after allowing five runs (including a grand slam) on three hits and a pair of walks. The 35-year-old lefty was pulled after hurling 61 of 100 pitches for strikes. Following a wild 11-10 finish, Hamels will search for his first victory of the 2019 campaign against Milwaukee on Saturday.

Hamels is slated to be the third starter for the Cubs to begin the season behind Jon Lester and Yu Darvish, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
It appears Chicago manager Joe Maddon will alternate lefties and righties in his rotation, with Lester, Darvish and Hamels followed by the righty Kyle Hendricks and the lefty Jose Quintana. Hamels played well for the Cubs after coming over in a deadline deal last season and should be primed for continued success heading into his age-35 season.

Hamels allowed four runs on seven hits over six innings of work in Wednesday's Cactus League game against the Dodgers. He walked two and struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
After logging just nine total innings in his first three starts of the spring, Hamels stretched out a bit on Wednesday in a game that featured plenty of regulars from both teams. He was victimized for solo home runs by A.J. Pollock and Corey Seager, and the veteran lefty now has a 5.40 ERA in Cactus League action. Hamels was a revelation for the Cubs after coming over in a deadline deal last summer and should be expected to post good numbers once the regular season starts.

Hamels will throw a simulated game Monday instead of making a Cactus League start, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hamels was in line to face the Reds Monday, but the Cubs will opt to skip his turn in the rotation and have him throw the simulated game instead. The 35-year-old pitched two scoreless innings in his spring debut Wednesday and is coming off a strong finish to 2018 in Chicago, so it appears the team is simply letting the veteran ramp up slowly in the early going this season.

Hamels pitched two scoreless innings and picked up the win in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Rangers. He allowed two hits and did not walk any batters.
EDGE Analysis
Hamels tossed only eight pitches as he eased into spring action. The veteran lefty played a key role for the Cubs last season, posting a 2.36 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 74 strikeouts in 76.1 innings across 12 outings after coming over from the Rangers in a July trade. Hamels just turned 35 in December, but it looks like he has little bit left in the tank.
