Chris Snyder has accepted a spot at Triple-A Salt Lake. Snyder was allowed to opt out of his minor league contract with the Angels but decided to remain with the club rather than test the free agent waters. He will serve as organizational catching depth this season.

Chris Snyder can opt out of his minor league deal with the Angels if he doesn't make the Opening Day roster. Snyder latched on with the Angels on Monday after he was given his release by the Nationals. The 32-year-old has a decent chance of pushing Hank Conger for the backup catcher job.

Angels signed C Chris Snyder to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. Snyder got released by the Nationals on Monday afternoon but was out of work for no longer than a minute. Hank Conger is tearing it up this year in the Cactus League, so Snyder will probably head to Triple-A Salt Lake.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Angels are among the teams interested in Chris Snyder. Rosenthal says that Snyder is "likely to be moved" given the Nats' catching depth. The 32-year-old batted just .176/.295/.308 last season for the Astros, but he did have seven homers in 76 games. He would be a fine backup.

Chris Snyder went 2-for-2 and hit a two-run homer off the Mets' Shaun Marcum on Friday. Snyder was unable to land a backup gig this winter and settled for a minor league contract with the Nationals earlier this month. There's no room for him on Washington's 25-man roster as is, but he'd be an obvious candidate for a trade if some catchers start going down this spring.

Nationals signed C Chris Snyder to a minor league contract. The deal presumably includes a spring training invite. Snyder, 32, batted just .176/.295/.308 with seven homers and a .602 OPS over 258 plate appearances with the Astros last season. He'll function as insurance in case Wilson Ramos is slow coming back from knee surgery.

Astros declined C Chris Snyder's $4 million option for 2013. Snyder will get a $500,000 buyout and test free agency. It's not a surprise to see the Astros decline, as $4 million is a hefty price for an unproductive backup catcher. The 31-year-old backstop batted just .176/.295/.308 with seven homers, 24 RBI and a .602 OPS in 258 plate appearances this year.

According to MLB.com's Brian McTaggart, it "doesn't appear" the Astros will pick up Chris Snyder's $4 million option for 2013. Snyder has a $500,000 buyout and isn't expected to return. The Astros will likely explore the free agent market for a backup catcher. Carlos Corporan is the likliest in-house candidate to replace Snyder.

Chris Snyder went 1-for-4 and drove home the Astros lone run in their loss to the Dodgers on Friday. Snyder has really struggled to get things going in the early part of the year, hitting just .100 (2-for-20) as he surrenders most of the at-bats at the catching position to Jason Castro. He's a solid veteran and does have some pop left in his bat, but isn't a factor in fantasy leagues.

Chris Snyder hit his second homer of the spring Tuesday against the Mets. Perhaps it's too early to be making judgments, but it sounds like Snyder's power is intact after his latest back surgery. If so, he probably still rates as one of the game's top 20 catchers or so. The Astros, though, need to find out what they have in Jason Castro and should use Snyder pretty strictly as a backup. He could always become trade bait if he proves he's healthy.
