Using Sabermetrics for Fantasy Baseball, Part 5 - Plate Discipline rotoballer.com Thu 1/31/19 6:15 AM

No matter how high a particular player's BABIP may be, his average will be mediocre at best if he strikes out too much. This is why fantasy owners have known for years that players like Chris Davis are potential drains on a fantasy team's batting average. Furthermore, players that whiff a lot tend to continue to do so - it is a very sticky trait. In 2018, the league average K% was 22.3%, meaning that roughly one in five MLB PAs ended in a whiff. Players that K significantly less than this have an[...]

Second Base - Early Points League Rankings and Tiers rotoballer.com Tue 1/29/19 6:15 AM

Its never too early to start looking toward the fantasy baseball season, so Im here to carry on RotoBallers position-by-position rankings analysis series for points leaguesand head-to-head (H2H) formats with the keystone position. Traditionally a scarce position in fantasy, second base has truly risen over the past few years, and truthfully I'd be happy with grabbing anyone in the first four tiers (top 17) to start on my points teams. The main issue is that 12 of those top 17 are multi-position [...]

Teoscar Hernandez - Promising or Pretender? rotoballer.com Fri 1/4/19 9:00 AM

Every new beginning signifies an end elsewhere. This was the case for Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Teoscar Hernandez last season. The hard-hitting righty broke through in more ways than one in his first full year in the big leagues, finishing with a .239/.302/.468 line, and most importantly 22 home runs. The path to the plate wasnt clear-cut for Hernandez, though. An injury to Blue Jays' third baseman Josh Donaldson opened up a spot on the 25-man roster, but before that, expectations were tepid.[...]

Chris Davis Remains Out of the Lineup on Thursday rotoballer.com Thu 9/27/18 5:33 PM

Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis (rest, neck) is out of the starting lineup for Thursday's game against the Houston Astros. Davis has not played since last Saturday and it's unclear if the Orioles are just resting him or if he is still battling a neck issue. Davis has been horrendous at the plate all season, so he won't be helpful in fantasy leagues. Corban Joseph will serve as the DH and bat sixth against righty Gerrit Cole. DFS players can go ahead and avoid Joseph for this one.
