Sabathia had his inflamed right knee drained Monday and had a Synvisc injection, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Sabathia doesn't consider his injury a significant one, though his recovery timeline will depend on how the knee responds to treatment. He felt as though he could have played through the issue, as it had been bothering him for the last two starts in which he nevertheless allowed just a combined one run on five hits while striking out 19 batters. Luis Cessa (notably not Sonny Gray) will take his place in the rotation for at least one start.

Sabathia was placed on the 10-day disabled list Monday with right knee inflammation.
EDGE Analysis
It's unclear when Sabathia picked up the injury, as the veteran had allowed just five runs over his previous four outings (19.1 innings) before landing on the shelf. The big southpaw missed some time with a knee injury last year, though it's unclear if his current issue is related. He'll be eligible to return Aug. 23 if he ultimately proves ready. In the meantime, Sonny Gray will likely slide back into the rotation in Sabathia's stead.

Sabathia (7-4) threw six scoreless innings, allowing one hit and three walks while fanning seven as he snagged the victory Sunday against Texas.
EDGE Analysis
Sabathia turned in yet another stellar outing, as he's allowed just five runs over his previous four starts (19.1 innings). The 38-year-old owns a 3.32 ERA and 1.28 WHIP with a 106:41 K:BB through 119.1 frames in 2018. Sabathia will draw a favorable matchup his next time out, as he lines up to face the Blue Jays on Friday.

Sabathia struck out 12 and walked three in a no-decision against the White Sox on Tuesday, allowing one run on four hits in 5.2 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Sabathia recorded a season-high 12 strikeouts and matched a season-high in pitches thrown with 103 (69 for strikes). The veteran lefty has not registered a win in his last five straight starts but still holds a respectable 3.49 ERA with a 1.31 WHIP. The great strikeout night brings him to a 99:38 K:BB in 113.1 innings. His next start will be against the Rangers at home.

Sabathia didn't factor into the decision in a 5-4 win over the Royals during the second game of Friday's doubleheader, giving up two runs on six hits and two walks over 4.2 innings while striking out eight.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran hadn't pitched in two weeks, but Sabathia looked good until the fifth inning when he landed awkwardly on his right knee while attempting to field a Rosell Herrera infield hit. He remained in the game, but after issuing both his free passes to two of the next three batters, manager Aaron Boone elected to take no chances and lifted the southpaw after 79 pitches (49 strikes), leaving Sabathia one out shy of his seventh win. Assuming there are no lingering issues with his knee, he'll carry a 3.53 ERA into his next start Thursday in Boston.

Sabathia will get the nod for Game 2 of Monday's twin bill, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic New York reports.
EDGE Analysis
After Friday's matchup with the Royals was postponed due to inclement weather, Sabathia will toe the rubber Saturday. He hasn't pitched since before the All-Star break, so he should be well rested.

Following Sunday's rainout, Sabathia's next outing has been pushed to Friday against the Royals, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.
EDGE Analysis
Sabathia received a lubricant injection in his right knee to help with arthritis over the All-Star break, but he should be good to go moving forward. He'll get some much needed rest after Sunday's series finale was postponed due to inclement weather, as he'd previously been slated to toe the rubber Tuesday. The 38-year-old sports a 3.51 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with a 77:29 K:BB over 100 innings heading into the second half.

Sabathia allowed four earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out two across 5.2 innings Saturday against the Indians. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
While Sabathia's line was not extraordinary by any measure, he was the victim of bad defense behind him. Two of his earned runs came on a routine groundball that should have ended an inning, but instead resulted in two earned runs. The only extra base hit he allowed was a solo home run to Jose Ramirez in the first inning, though Sabathia has now allowed at least one home run in three consecutive starts. Due to his lack of strikeouts -- he has 77 punchouts in 100 innings pitched this season -- he is susceptible to bad batted ball luck and inflated home run totals, though he does have a solid 3.51 ERA headed into the All-Star break.

Sabathia will start Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader at Baltimore, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Sabathia was originally expected to start against the Orioles on Tuesday, but will instead take part in the doubleheader on regular rest. Masahiro Tanaka (hamstring) is set to return form the disabled list to start Tuesday's contest.

Sabathia (5-3) picked up the win Friday, allowing one run on six hits and a walk over seven innings while striking out five in an 8-1 victory over the Red Sox.
EDGE Analysis
The left-hander threw 62 of 97 pitches for strikes en route to his sixth quality start of the season. Sabathia's 3.02 ERA on the year is strong, but he's been even better lately, putting together a 1.93 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 28:7 K:BB through 32.2 innings in June. He'll look to keep things rolling Wednesday at home against the Braves.
