Romine (wrist) began a rehab assignment Monday with the Cubs' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate. He started at catcher and went 1-for-2 with a double.
EDGE Analysis
The rehab appearance marked Romine's first game action since April 25, when he suffered a significant left wrist sprain that sidelined him for three months. Because of the lengthy layoff, Romine will likely be in store for an extended rehab assignment that spans multiple minor-league affiliates. Once reinstated from the 60-day injured list, he could supplant Robinson Chirinos as the No. 2 catcher behind top backstop Willson Contreras.

Romine was transferred to the 60-day injured list Wednesday, Tony Andracki of Marquee Sports Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Romine was placed on the injured list with a "significant" wrist sprain April 26, and he'll be sidelined until at least late June. Tony Wolters should continue to serve as the backup catcher behind Willson Contreras.

Romine is dealing with a "significant" wrist sprain and will miss several weeks, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Romine was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday, and he'll miss more than the minimum amount of time while he recovers. He doesn't yet have an established timetable to return to game action, but Tony Wolters should serve as the primary backup behind the plate while Romine is out.

Romine was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left wrist sprain Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Romine struck out in each of his two at-bats in Sunday's loss to Milwaukee, and he apparently sustained a wrist injury that will force him to miss time. Tony Wolters' contract was selected in a corresponding move, and Wolters should serve as the primary backup to Willson Contreras while Romine is sidelined.

Romine (knee) is doing "some baseball activity" but remains unlikely for Opening Day, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Romine has completed light hitting and throwing, but he is still experiencing some mobility issues with his sprained right knee. If the veteran is not ready for Opening Day, P.J. Higgins will likely serve as the backup catcher behind Willson Contreras.

The Cubs have offered no concrete timeline for Romine (knee) to return and are considering other options for their Opening Day roster, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Romine has been out since March 6 with a right knee sprain, and manger David Ross said Wednesday that the catcher is still dealing with soreness. If Romine is unavailable come Opening Day, Chicago will likely use either P.J. Higgins or Jose Lobaton as the backup to Willson Contreras.

Romine has been sidelined since Saturday due to a right knee sprain, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Romine's injury isn't believed to be too serious, but the catcher has been monitored by the team while he recovers. A timetable for his return hasn't yet been established. The 32-year-old went 3-for-9 with a home run, three RBI and three strikeouts over three spring games prior to his injury.

Romine signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the Cubs on Friday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Romine was a competent catcher in 2018 and 2019, hitting a combined .262/.302/.428 (good for a 94 wRC+) with 18 homers in 150 games. His numbers fell off a cliff with the Tigers last season, as he stumbled to a .238/.259/.323 line (54 wRC+) while striking out 34.8 percent of the time. For the majority of his career, he's looked like a backup, and that's what he lines up as in Chicago for now, though a rumored Willson Contreras trade could see him step into a starting role.
