The Phillies tendered a contract to Bastardo on Tuesday, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Bastardo earned $2 million last season. The Phillies will be looking to deal him this winter as they have younger and cheaper left handed relievers that make Bastardo expendable.

Antonio Bastardo requested $2.5 million and was offered $1.675 million from the Phillies when arbitration figures were exchanged on Friday. The 28-year-old southpaw missed the final 50 games of the 2013 season due to a suspension for performance-enhancing drugs. It's not fully clear what his role will be upon his return to the team, but there's a chance he could return to being second in line for saves behind closer Jonathan Papelbon.

Antonio Bastardo has accepted a 50-game performance-enhancing drug suspension from MLB. Bastardo is one of the newest names connected to Biogenesis, as his name wasn't floated publicly in regard to the scandal until FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal passed along the news. The 27-year-old left-hander has a 2.32 ERA and 47/21 K/BB ratio over 42 2/3 innings this season, but he won't pitch again until 2014. The 27-year-old will be arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter.

Antonio Bastardo has a 2.35 ERA through 19 appearances despite a mediocre 1.43 WHIP. Bastardo has also blown two saves. He's punching out 4.6 less hitters per nine innings then he did last year, when he had a poor 4.33 ERA, and he's allowing more hits and walks. If Bastardo doesn't become more stingy with base runners, his peripherals will begin to wreak havoc on his ERA.
