Allen Craig is out of the Cardinals' lineup for the second straight game Friday. Craig started the first game since Oscar Taveras' promotion but has now been benched for the last two. As suspected, he's in for a big drop in playing time.

The two-hit game was the latest in a stretch of games that suggest he's finding his timing at the plate after a miserable first month and a half -- in his last seven games, Craig is 12-for-29 (.414) with a homer and eight RBI. If you can still buy low on the 29-year-old, do it now.

Craig's two-run single off Homer Bailey in the fourth inning pulled the Cardinals to within a run at 3-2, but that would be as close as they'd get. He's started to pick up the pace offensively, hitting .353 (18-for-51) with a homer and 11 RBI in his last 13 games.

The first baseman has been mired in a season-long slump but reached base on three hits and two walks on Wednesday and had another multi-hit game on Thursday. The Cardinals certainly hope it's a sign he's ready to break out. Craig is slashing .239/.297/.364 on the year.
