Simon threw eight shutout innings against the Pirates on Wednesday. He allowed just two hits -- both singles -- with no walks and two strikeouts. He didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning when Andrew McCutcheon punched a single past Nick Castellanos at third. He allowed another single that inning and then settled right back down again, punching 67 of his 108 pitches for strikes. It's his second win of the season.

Simon took a shutout into the sixth inning Thursday; it was his debut as a member of the Tigers. He gave up three runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings, and ended up with the win in an 8-4 victory over the Indians. He spent the last three seasons in the NL and only one of those (2014) was as a starter. He'll get a lot of offensive support from a potent Detroit lineup, but that doesn't mean he'll deliver stats like he did last year. And that means he's a risk unless you focus on him as streaming option in the perfect matchup.

Simon has been roughed up in each of his last three spring starts, lifting his ERA to 7.02 through appearances in Grapefruit League play. While Simon is still penciled in for a rotation spot to begin the season, his struggles in the second half last season were already cause for concern about his ability to stick as a starter on a team with playoff aspirations. Simon has allowed 13 runs on 19 hits over 16.2 innings, while carrying a 10:5 K:BB. If Simon were to struggle and fall out of the rotation, the Tigers may turn to Kyle Lobstein as his replacement.

Simon agreed to a one-year, $5.55 million contract with the Tigers on Friday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. Simon had another good season in 2014, posting his third straight sub-3.50 ERA campaign, which all came after the age of 30. He was traded to the Tigers in the offseason, and figures to enter the 2015 season as part of the Tigers' starting rotation.

Simon tossed six solid innings in Sunday's win over the Cardinals, allowing two earned runs on seven hits and two walks while picking up three strikeouts. The veteran righty has allowed just two runs in his last 14 innings after allowing six runs in four innings in his first start of the month. Simon next takes the mound this weekend against the Cardinals.

Simon struck out five and walked three while giving up two runs on five hits over seven innings to earn his 14th win of the season against the Cards on Wednesday. While Simon has struggled in recent weeks, the Reds are still believed to be considering him for a rotation spot again in 2015. The start against the Cards -- a club pursuing another NL Central crown -- was impressive Wednesday, and he'll take his next two turns on the road against the Cubs on Monday before another matchup with St. Louis on September 21.

Reds manager Bryan Price envisions Simon starting again in 2015 despite the right-hander's second-half struggles. "I don't think there's any reason not to see [Simon] as a starter," Price said. "I know the second half hasn't been nearly as good. We really went into this as a guy that he was going to be a stop-gap this year until [Mat] Latos got back. ... Now [Simon] has 13 wins, he's an All-Star, he's shown some durability. ... So I would think that going into '15, you'll be seeing him as a starter." The Reds are going to have to make some hard decisions following the 2015 season about their rotation, with Johnny Cueto, Mat Latos and Mike Leake all able to walk after the season. It's possible that one of those three could get traded this offseason, which would ensure a spot for Simon.

Simon labored through four innings in Friday's loss to the Mets, allowing six runs on eight hits and three walks while picking up five strikeouts. After performing at an All-Star level during the season's first four months, Simon has taken a step back since the beginning of August. Over his last seven outings, the 33-year-old hurler has posted an unsightly 5.87 ERA and 1.59 WHIP across 38.1 innings. Simon will be back at it Wednesday against the Cardinals.
