McCarthy turned in 6.1 innings Friday night, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk while piling up seven strikeouts in a 5-0 loss to the Rays. McCarthy pitched well for the Yankees once again, but the New York lineup was unable to come up with much of anything against the Rays' staff. The towering righty has been extremely solid on the mound since first coming from Arizona to the Bronx back on July 6, posting a 2.30 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 9.0 K/9 across 43 innings. McCarthy is scheduled to be back on the bump Thursday versus the Astros.
