Tony Cingrani walked in the winning run in a 4-3 loss to the Pirates in 12 innings on Thursday. Cingrani allowed a double and a walk to begin the 11th inning, but managed to wiggle out of the jam to keep the Reds alive. However, he gave up a one-out single to Gaby Sanchez in his second inning of work before balking him over to second base and intentionally walking Josh Harrison. He got Jordy Mercer to strike out swinging for the second out, but then hit Clint Barmes with a pitch before walking Russell Martin with the bases loaded to end it. The Reds have decided to keep Cingrani in the bullpen for now, but if he fails to find success, they could opt to keep him stretched out as rotation insurance in Triple-A.
