Jennings (knee) will not return to the Rays in 2014, the Tampa Bay Times reports. Although Jennings has reported feeling better of late, he hasn't improved enough to warrant a return during the season's final week. With the Rays securely out of the playoff contention, there would be little reason to rush him back anyway. Rather than travel with the team for their final six-game road trip, Jennings will remain in Tampa Bay, where he'll continue to undergo treatment with the hopes of getting fully healthy for 2015. His knee injury has kept him out of action since Aug. 29, limiting the outfielder to 123 games this year. When healthy, Jennings was able to post a .244/.319/.378 slash line, but his 15 steals represented a four-year low. He should have a starting outfield job heading into next year, but it's currently unclear how the recent ailment will affect his status in the offseason, where he'll be arbitration-eligible for the first time.
