Davis was dropped to the seventh spot in the order Monday against the Rays, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. After delivering a 1-for-11, five-strikeout performance during the Orioles' weekend series with the Cubs, Davis' season batting average has dropped all the way to .189. Some regression was certainly expected after Davis swatted 53 homers and batted .286 in 2013, but a decline to this extent wasn't foreseen by even the most pessimistic of projections. If there's anything positive to be gleaned from his season, it might be that he's at least closing in on gaining eligibility at third base. With Manny Machado on the DL, Davis will make his 13th start of the season at the position, where he'll likely be a fixture the rest of the way.
