Giants placed RHP Matt Cain on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 11, with right elbow inflammation. Yusmeiro Petit will start in his place on Tuesday night in Philadelphia. Cain finished the first half of the 2014 season with a disappointing 2-7 record and 4.18 ERA in 90 1/3 innings. He will be eligible to return from the disabled list later this week, but the Giants haven't offered up an exact timetable.
