Encarnacion will be the Jays' first baseman this season, MLB.com's Gregor Chisholm reports. Either something changed in the past week, or there was faulty news coming out of camp last week, because it was recently reported that Encarnacion might be the everyday DH. Instead, Justin Smoak, Danny Valencia and Dioner Navarro will battle for starts at designated hitter. This has little impact on Encarnacion's status as one of the premier fantasy sluggers, as he should be in the lineup almost every day.
