Cabrera (hamstring) is not expected to join the Padres this weekend in Arizona, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. "Let's see how this whole process plays out, even how his hamstring is," manager Bud Black said Wednesday. "I still think there's some information-gathering with MLB and authorities that I'm not privy to. Organizationally, we're going to wait for all this to get settled and cleared. Then if this all plays out positively, he can get active." Black had previously expressed hope that Cabrera would return this weekend, but it now sounds like the team will wait until the league addresses the situation before thinking about reinstating the 27-year-old. Cabrera was cited for driving under the influence of marijuana last Wednesday, which the team was said to be taking "very seriously," but his hamstring is still a concern as well. He was reportedly still feeling pain while running as recently as last week.
