Wright (shoulder) has been shut down for the remainder of the 2014 season, but he will not require surgery, ESPN New York's Adam Rubin reports. After an MRI Tuesday revealed persistent inflammation in the rotator cuff in his left shoulder, the team decided to shut him down for the rest of the season to begin the process of resting the inflamed shoulder. Once the inflammation dies down, Wright will begin a rehabilitation program to strengthen the shoulder, and since he is not expected to require surgery, he should be ready for Opening Day 2015. His eight home runs this season mark a career low, as does his .324 OBP and .374 SLG. Wright was likely bothered by injuries for much of the season, so there's certainly reason to be optimistic that he can rebound in 2015. However, as he enters his age-32 season, it's likely that his best years are behind him.
